About Hawk Pride Pottery, Jason Behel
Jason
Behel's work consist of primarily sawdust fired pieces. Sawdust
firing is a variation on the primitive method of producing pottery
known as pit/smoke firing in which sawdust is used as the main
source of fuel. The surface of each piece is permanently etched
by the smoke and flames ensuring that each piece is unique.

Each piece Jason makes is a one of a kind. While he may produce
a series of related pieces, he does not duplicate. If you have
one of his pieces, it is the only one. He is currently selling
work privately, through Cold Water Book store in Tuscumbia, and
he considers commisions.
Jason never knows what the finished product will look like and
for him its that uncertainty that makes the process exciting.
Each piece is thrown on a potter's wheel, then burnished over
several days to achieve the desired sheen. This takes place before
any decoration and firing. He makes and fires all work at his
home on Hawk Pride Mountain in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
