About
Johanna
Littleton, artist
Johanna
Littleton, an artist from Decatur, works primarily in acrylic
and mixed media. Johanna’s message in her paintings is for people
to “stop and really look at the people you meet each day”.
Her
series "Families of Man" is the result of a chance meeting with
a 93-year-old woman in a bazaar in Esfahan, Iran in 1977. For
nearly 15 years, that moment when two women seemed to bridge the
gap of age, culture and language kept returning to her. These
thoughts culminated in this series.
She has lived in Decatur with her husband. Larry, and six sons
since 1982. She worked as the graphics design editor/illustrator
for the Decatur Daily for seven years, taught art K-8 at St. Ann’s
school and is now teaching graphic design at Calhoun Community
College.
She
has been past president of Decatur Art Guild and been a member
of the Shoals Art Guild. She has been in Arts Alive and Helen
Keller festivals for six years.
