About Susann Elsass, artist
When
I was about 7 years old my mother gave me her old set of oils
and as a child I spent a good part of my summers painting in the
back yard. My father didn't especially appreciate the green child's
hand print that ended up on the hood of the family stationwagon,
but luckily I was allowed to continue painting. When I graduated
high school I won a couple of art scholarships and studied art
at Bethany College for 2 years before changing majors to pursue
a career in business.
I have
only found the time to start painting again since I moved to Alabama.
I've been inspired by a piece that I started 10 years ago of an
imagined place. I've carried the unfinished piece with me all
these years and often thought I'd like to explore the technique
and concept further. The original piece is shown in the photo
at right where I'm sharing it with a local artist gathering. -
